well this is the first time I've not been too tired or overwhelmed to write something since I arrived. well, evidently, I arrived safely.
I was a little worried about being stuck in customs for a ridiculous amount of time. but in the end I was only there for 15 minutes tops. I managed to find my way around heathrow with no problem, and met the university about an hour after I touched down. I was a little thirsty though, because I barely drank anything on the plane since I had a window seat. I was hoping I could boil some water once i got to my hall, but the kettle had a lot of gunk in it. I nearly died of dehydration during the first few days.
I was really excited when I got on the coach taking us to school. especially after we left london and were in the country. the country really is very beautiful. there is just so much space. you can see green stretching out infront of you in every direction with some trees dotting the landscape. no high rise buildings. lots of sheep and cows and horses. I fell asleep after a while.
there's a party at the union this evening. I think it's a party anyway. I can't be bothered to go. I've been going for event after event every evening and while some were fun, some were drop dead boring. and now since all the british students have arrived, it gets so crowded.
since mum and dad didn't arrive until yesterday evening, I had to do everything myself. grocery shopping, setting up bank accounts, figuring out the internet, and a lot of other things. and it was all great so i felt invincible. I managed to make a good group of friends from south east asia. It's really interesting; meeting all these people from all over the world. walking home last night I met a german guy who lives in the same group of blocks as me. and in the breakfast line on the second day, I met a chinese girl from hungary.
well I went to stratford with a few girls on wednesday. stratford is awesome. some of the streets are still cobbled and some of the buildings are very old. of course the house in which shakespeare was born in is one of those. I wasn't able to visit his grave, because my friends and I were trying to figure out where to eat. In the end we had a really nice meal at an old english tea house. It was really warm and homey and comforting.
I managed to burn my hand with scalding hot tea during dinner at the union. I have a scar that looks like a contagious disease, but I don't think it has really put anyone off yet. I'm waiting for the kitchen to empty up a bit so I can go in and cook a little. I wouldn't want strangers to watch me cook. it'd make me nervous.
there's a lot more that's been happening. but maybe I'll write about it later. school is starting tomorrow. I discovered that during my first five weeks I'll have like five hours of lectures. that is the epitome of relaxation.
